Press Release - Namespace ZA Comments on E-Commerce Bill

Namespace ZA, the body elected by the South African Internet community to oversee the ZA domain space, has some concerns about the recently published Electronic Communications and Transaction Bill. These concerns are centred around the issues of how the government proposes to administer the ZA namespace of the Internet in terms of the proposed legislation. In short, Namespace ZA believes that there is a better model for administering the domain names in South Africa.

Namespace ZA will submit extensive comment to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications in due course, but wishes to encourage the Internet industry to make submissions as well. Submissions relating to domain names may be submitted to Namespace ZA for collating and coordinating. Details are on on the web at www.namespace.org.za, where the submission will be published.

In addition, Namespace ZA will shortly be publishing its draft submissions to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications on the same web site and interested parties will be welcome to endorse this submission (in full or in part), if they do not intend making their own submission.
